Egyptian media reported that 450 brokers responsible for the deaths of Egyptian pilgrims during the pilgrimage season have been arrested. The remaining brokers will be apprehended gradually upon their arrival at airports.
Sources informed Cairo 24 that there is a comprehensive list of names of pilgrimage brokers currently outside the country, and they will be arrested sequentially upon their arrival at Egyptian airports.
They added that brokers were identified through barcodes accompanying the pilgrims, as these barcodes contain details of the issuing entity.
In the same context, an owner of a tourism company disclosed plans for an urgent meeting this week with the Chamber of Tourism Companies to discuss the incidents during the pilgrimage season.
The tourism company owner also anticipated the attendance of over 50 tourism companies from those participating in the concluded pilgrimage season, in order to safeguard the reputation of tourism companies accredited by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
He further indicated that in the coming period, control will be established over more than 35,000 travel agencies, including those that participated in the previous pilgrimage season, adding that immediate closure and accountability of violators will be enforced.
