Egyptian MP Mohamed Abdel-Aleem Dawood has called for the rapid formation of a fact-finding committee by relevant authorities to investigate the deaths of Egyptians during this year’s Hajj season.
In an urgent statement addressed to the Speaker of the House and directed at the government, Dawood highlighted the issue of the rising number of deaths among Egyptian pilgrims, as well as the increasing number of missing individuals, indicating a lack of control over the situation.
Dawood stated in his statement: “The increase in the number of deaths among Egyptian pilgrims this Hajj season, in addition to the rise in the number of missing persons and the apparent lack of control, makes the situation more difficult by the day.”
He added: “We understand that death is a matter of fate and divine decree, but the events of this Hajj season are unprecedented and have not occurred in any previous Hajj season, especially given that these deaths occurred within a geographical area not exceeding three kilometers.”
The Egyptian MP demanded the “rapid formation of a fact-finding committee by the relevant authorities to uncover the truth behind the rising number of deaths among Egyptian pilgrims, as well as the increase in missing persons during the Hajj season. This committee should also evaluate the role of the Egyptian medical mission for Hajj this season and reveal all facts to the Egyptian public, who are feeling increasingly distressed by these events.”
He also condemned “the situation faced by Egyptians who traveled to the sacred House of Allah seeking peace, as well as the announcement of the disappearance of dozens of bodies, with their families unable to locate them.”
Furthermore, the Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Soha Gendi, confirmed that the ministry had been operating a 24-hour operations room during the Hajj days and the Eid al-Adha holiday following the deaths of a large number of citizens during Hajj.
