Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, warmly welcomed His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Emir of the State of Qatar, during a meeting at the presidential office.

According to a statement released by the Algerian Presidency, Nazeer Arabawi, the Director of the Presidential Office, was also present at the reception. This meeting serves to strengthen the diplomatic relations between Algeria and Qatar and to promote cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.

Various economic endeavors, particularly in the energy sector, given that both countries are significant players in the global oil and gas market.
President Tebboune has been serving as the President of Algeria since December 2019. Before his presidency, he held various governmental positions, including Prime Minister of Algeria from May 2017 to August 2017.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was the ruling Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. Even after abdicating in favor of his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, he is still an influential figure in the Qatari political landscape and is commonly referred to as the ‘Father Emir.’

This meeting between President Tebboune and the Father Emir Al Thani is seen as a continuation of the robust relationship between Algeria and Qatar, with the potential for discussions on new areas of cooperation, including trade, regional security, and cultural exchange. It also signifies the ongoing diplomatic engagement between Algeria and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
