The Office of Cereals, Algeria’s official grain purchasing agency, has launched an international tender to buy approximately 240,000 tonnes of feed corn exclusively from Argentina and Brazil, according to European traders on Wednesday.
The traders told Reuters that the deadline for submitting bids in the tender is this Thursday. The corn is required for shipment in October and is to be divided into 6 shipments, with each ranging between 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes.
European traders also noted last Monday that it is believed the Office of Cereals had purchased an unspecified amount of feed corn, likely sourced from Argentina or Brazil, in an international tender for up to 80,000 tons that closed last week.
Algeria has officially been approved for membership in the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), according to the country’s finance ministry.
The Algerian finance ministry highlighted that joining the NDB, the financial arm of the BRICS group marks a significant step for Algeria in its journey toward deeper integration into the global financial system.
Earlier this month, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune secured a second term in office, winning the presidential election by a substantial margin.
President Tebboune clinched the victory with a staggering 94.65% of the total votes cast.
Tebboune’s closest competitors, Youssef Ouchiche, the first secretary of the Socialist Forces Front, and Abdelali Hassani Cherif, the leader of the Peace Society Movement, trailed significantly behind.
