Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal highlighted that the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran marks a pivotal moment for regional security.

Speaking alongside his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Riyadh during a joint press conference on Thursday, Prince Faisal said that Saudi Arabia looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Iran.

He noted that the Kingdom is eager to activate previous security and economic agreements that were previously established between the two nations.

Amir-Abdollahian’s visit to Riyadh follows the diplomatic breakthrough brokered by China in March, ending a seven-year period of no formal diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran.

As part of the renewed ties, Saudi Arabia also conveyed its appreciation to Iran for its support of the Kingdom’s bid to host World Expo 2030.
