Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal suffered a cruciate ligament injury in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in LaLiga. He will undergo surgery.

Carvajal, 32, was stretchered off in stoppage time after a duel with Villarreal midfielder Yeremy Pino caused him to sprain his right knee unnaturally.

“Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I’ll have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months,” Carvajal said on Instagram as he posted his picture in an ambulance.

“Looking forward to starting the recovery process and coming back like an animal. Thank you all for your messages, I feel very loved,” he added.

On his part, Coach Carlo Ancelotti was concerned about Carvajal’s injury, which is the latest blow for the Spanish side after they played without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an abductor muscle injury against Atletico last weekend.

In second-half stoppage time, the 32-year-old was stretchered off with a knee injury – something that reduced him to tears.

The Spain international then posted on Instagram from an ambulance that he will have surgery and would be out for a “few months”.

Real Madrid has set a historic milestone by becoming the first football club to surpass €1 billion in revenue.

This achievement outshines other major clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City, PSG, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, none of whom have reached this financial landmark.

The achievement is particularly notable as it was not anticipated to occur this year; expectations were that revenue would hit these levels only after the full utilization of the Bernabéu stadium for various events and retail opportunities.

However, Real Madrid achieved a revenue of €1,073 million in the 2023-24 financial year without significant additional use of the stadium facilities.
