The United States has renewed its commitment to work with international partners to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and achieve a ceasefire agreement among the warring parties.
The U.S. State Department, in a statement released today, Monday, announced that the U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, began a tour last night that includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, as part of urgent efforts to end the war and worsening famine in Sudan.
The efforts are based on the success of the initiative “United for the Salvation of Lives and Peace in Sudan.” The diplomatic priorities include coordinating efforts to pressure the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to expand humanitarian access and ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and human rights, in addition to seeking a ceasefire.
During his visit, Diplomat Perriello will meet with Sudanese refugees and civil leaders in the region, along with key government officials and multiple partners from the Arab League and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for East African states.
