Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, strongly condemned the actions of Israeli extremists, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, for their raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement released today, Gheit expressed that these extremists are pushing the situation to “the brink of the abyss” and are intentionally provoking the sentiments of hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide.

Jamal Rashidi, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, detailed in a press release that the incursion occurred under the protection of Israeli police, which transformed the Old City into a military barracks and imposed restrictions on worshippers entering the area.

Consequently, Rashidi stated that the Israeli government bears full responsibility for this provocative escalation and the intensification of tensions.

The spokesperson highlighted that these repeated intrusions into Al-Aqsa Mosque violate the historical and legal status quo of Jerusalem and are part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at the temporal and spatial division of the mosque.

Rashidi criticized this approach as a cheap and dangerous strategy to score political points by stirring religious sentiments and provoking Muslims.
