UNSC to Review Crises in Sudan, Libya & Ukraine

The UN Security Council will hold sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the situations in Libya, Ukraine, and Sudan.


According to a statement on Tuesday, the Council will conduct an open briefing and closed consultations on Sudan, focusing on UN efforts to support the country’s path to peace and stability.

The briefing will be delivered by the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramdan Lamamra, the Director of the Operations and Advocacy Division at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu, and a representative of civil society.

Today, the Council will also hold an open briefing on Ukraine, requested by Slovenia and the United States, who are involved in addressing political issues in Ukraine.

Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo is expected to provide the briefing.

Additionally, on Wednesday, the Council will conduct an open briefing followed by closed consultations on the situation in Libya and the work of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Stephanie Khouri, Deputy Special Representative and the Political Officer in charge of UNSMIL, is expected to provide the briefing.
