Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji, has reiterated Iraq’s firm stance on not allowing its territory to be used as a launch pad for terrorist and banned groups that pose a threat to the security of both the country and the region.

The statement was made during a meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Riza Guney, where they discussed enhancing relations and ongoing constructive cooperation on mutual interests between the two neighbouring nations.

The Office of the National Security Advisor released a press statement, reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), highlighting the discussions that also covered the outcomes of the recent visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad.

The meeting emphasized the importance of following up on the Memoranda of Understanding signed during Erdogan’s visit, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation and ensure regional stability.

Officials and security sources reported that at least one member of the Sunni Awakening Forces was killed in an explosive device attack at a checkpoint in Khan Bani Saad, approximately 50 kilometres north of Baghdad.

Two security sources and a medical source stated that two fighters from the government-allied Awakening Forces were killed and at least six others were injured, including five Iraqi soldiers in the attack.

The Iraqi Security Media Cell, the official entity responsible for disseminating security information, confirmed that one person was killed due to the detonation of two explosive devices near the checkpoint on Saturday evening.

The cell added in a statement that four individuals sustained minor injuries.
