During an international conference in Paris aimed at supporting Sudan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) pledged $100 million in humanitarian aid to bolster efforts in Sudan and its neighboring regions.

The commitment was announced by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan, Minister of State, who emphasized the critical need for assistance in Sudan, where a year-long civil war has pushed millions to the brink of famine.

Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the imperative for the international community to facilitate a return to the political process in Sudan, emphasizing that a ceasefire is essential for the region’s security and stability, as reported by the state news agency Wam on Wednesday.

The UAE’s support for those affected by the conflict has now reached a total of $150 million, encompassing medical, food, and relief supplies, according to Wam.

Additionally, the UAE has erected a field hospital in Abéché city, Republic of Chad, at a cost of $20 million, marking the second hospital established by the UAE to aid Sudanese refugees.

The Paris conference, jointly organized by France, Germany, and the European Union, witnessed donors pledging over €2 billion ($2.1 billion) earlier in the week to alleviate the repercussions of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

The civil war in Sudan has triggered the world’s largest displacement crisis, with over nine million people compelled to flee, while approximately 18 million individuals are at risk of starvation.
