In a recent escalation of tensions in Jerusalem, dozens of Israeli settlers stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday, under the heavy protection of Israeli police forces.

This latest incursion into one of Islam’s holiest sites, as reported by eyewitnesses to the Palestinian news agency “WAFA,” involved settlers entering through the Moroccan Gate, engaging in provocative tours, and performing Talmudic rituals within the mosque’s sacred precincts.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque, revered as the third holiest site in Islam, has been a flashpoint for Israeli-Palestinian tensions for decades. Situated in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, it is part of the larger compound known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif and to Jews as the Temple Mount, making it central to the religious narratives of both communities.

Israeli police measures, including the restriction of access to the mosque for Palestinians, have contributed to the declining number of worshippers able to attend prayers, especially noted for the fifth consecutive month.

These actions exacerbate the already heightened tensions in the region, underscoring the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the sensitive nature of religious sites in Jerusalem.
