South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, has called on all nations to cease funding Israeli military operations in Gaza following a clear statement by the International Court of Justice that such actions may constitute genocide.

Pandor stated to reporters, “We believe that the conclusion reached by the International Court of Justice underscores the potential for genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

She added, “This necessarily imposes an obligation on all countries to halt funding and facilitation of Israeli military activities.”

Minister Naledi Pandor expressed hope that, after the International Court of Justice’s decision regarding Israel, meaningful discussions about a two-state solution would begin.

The International Court of Justice, a United Nations body, reviewed a case brought by the Republic of South Africa against Israel, calling for an end to Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches civilians.

The court issued an initial ruling that obligates Israel to take measures to prevent genocide and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to civilian populations.

South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, commended the International Court of Justice’s ruling, describing it as a “victory for justice.”
