Lebanese militant group Hezbollah announced on Tuesday that it had targeted the Israeli army’s northern command center in response to what it described as “recent assassinations and repeated attacks on civilians” in Lebanon and Syria.

The attack involved the launch of a “large number” of missiles at the Mount Meron base, marking the second such assault since the unprecedented October 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Hezbollah’s initial strike on January 6 was in direct response to the killing of Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Aruri in a strike in Beirut, widely attributed to Israel.

The Meron base, targeted again by Hezbollah earlier in the month, serves as the sole air management, monitoring, and control center in the northern occupied territories, with no major alternative.

The ongoing cycle of retaliatory actions underscores the heightened tensions in the region.
