Fire Engulfs 200 Shops in Afghanistan

The president of the craftsmen’s union in Herat province, Afghanistan, Abdul Wadud Faizadah, announced on Saturday that a horrifying fire has consumed approximately 200 stores in a major market in the western Afghan province.

The fire broke out at around three in the morning local time, at the Herat Castle Market in the second municipal district of Herat city. The flames devastated 200 diverse stores, from clothing outlets to cosmetic shops, inflicting losses estimated at 100 million Afghanis, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

State police spokesperson Abdul Latif Insaf stated that the fire, which erupted as a result of an electrical fault on Friday night, was brought under control within hours by firefighters.

The spokesperson confirmed that “the fire did not result in fatalities or injuries, but it has caused substantial property damage.”
