Armed factions in Iraq announced on Monday that they carried out drone attacks on a US base in the “Green Village” within the depths of Syria, part of the international coalition.

In a statement issued by the Iraqi factions and distributed today, they said, “In continuation of our approach, we targeted the international coalition’s base ‘Green Village’ deep inside Syria using drones.”

It’s worth noting that these factions had previously threatened to strike more US bases and interests in the region due to their support for Israel.

These Iraqi factions have previously executed over 90 targeting operations, hitting US military bases in both Iraq and Syria, following the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October of the past year.

The US maintains a military presence in both Iraq and Syria, primarily aimed at countering the remnants of ISIS and providing support to local security forces.

However, this presence has drawn criticism from various factions within Iraq, as well as from neighboring countries like Iran and Syria.

Many Iraqi militant groups view the US presence as an occupation and interference in Iraq’s sovereignty.

This sentiment has roots in the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, which led to a prolonged period of instability and sectarian violence in the country.
