The Egyptian Cabinet has given its nod to a presidential draft decision aimed at establishing two branches of renowned Russian universities, namely St Petersburg and Kazan, as part of an initiative to elevate the standards of higher education and scientific research in Egypt.
As outlined in the approved decision, the “Modern Group University Foundation” will oversee the launch of these branches.
The University of St Petersburg will find its place in New Cairo, while the University of Kazan will establish its branch in 6th of October City.
The primary objective of inaugurating these branches is to contribute significantly to the advancement of Egypt’s higher education and scientific research system, fostering stronger ties between the Egyptian educational landscape and its counterparts in the Russian Federation.
The draft resolution emphasises the role of the university institution in providing administrative services and necessary equipment to facilitate the proper functioning of the branches in executing their educational and research missions.
Notably, the university institution is not authorised to confer certificates, academic degrees, or conduct scientific research.
These responsibilities lie with the University of St Petersburg for its branch and the Kazan Federal University for its respective branch, especially concerning study systems, examinations, and degree conferral.
The University of Petersburg, through its hosted branch, will offer programmes in general medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, mirroring those offered by Kazan Federal University.
