The United Kingdom has announced an initial aid package worth £1 million to support Libya in coping with the destructive aftermath of floods.

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, as reported by the official UK government website, stated that his country is committed to supporting Libya in the wake of these devastating floods.

He elaborated that the initial package, valued at £1 million, is aimed at providing life-saving assistance to meet the immediate needs of those most affected by the floods.

He added that the United Kingdom will continue to coordinate closely with the United Nations and Libyan authorities regarding any additional support that may be required.

Moreover, Tariq Ahmad, the UK Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the UN, conveyed his condolences to Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi today and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Libya in the aftermath of the disaster.

The UN has announced a $10 million response to the floods from its Central Emergency Response Fund, of which the UK is one of the largest contributors.

The UK has allocated £52 million for the vital work of the UN Emergency Response Fund in 2023.
