Multiple cities and towns across Syria witnessed significant protests demanding the fall of the current regime and expressing solidarity with the ongoing strike in the Sweida province. The information was relayed by the German news agency.

According to Yasser Al-Hanawi, one of the organizers of the civic movement in Sweida, the number of protesters substantially increased today. “Hundreds from different towns and villages came together, converting the Al-Sir Square into a focal point of protest and sit-in on its sixth day. The enthusiasm of the demonstrators was further fueled by broad support from provinces ranging from the north to the east, all backing Sweida’s cause.”

Elaborating further to the German news agency, Al-Hanawi noted, “Today’s chants centered on calling for the downfall of the regime and the unity of Syria. The flag of the Syrian revolution was proudly raised at the Al-Sir Square and in the town of Al-Qariya, right in front of the tomb of Sultan Pasha Al-Atrash. A significant development of the day was Sheikh Hamoud Al-Hanawi, a prominent religious figure in Sweida, joining the ranks of the protesters.”

Regarding negotiations between Syrian authorities and the elders of Sweida, Al-Hanawi stressed that the local elders and notables, like the youth, remain committed to the primary objective of the movement: to topple the regime. “The meeting held yesterday between the governor of Sweida and the elders was unproductive, as they firmly reiterated the demands of the protesters.”

Meanwhile, despite heightened security measures, Daraa province experienced massive demonstrations today.

Protests in Sweida carry both a local and national resonance, reflecting broader sentiments against the regime and highlighting the need for political reforms and more inclusive governance.
