Three Lebanese soldiers were injured on Sunday when a heavy artillery shell struck near a military vehicle in the Nabatieh region, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
The 155mm shell landed on the road near Burj al-Muluk in Marjayoun district, severely injuring the soldiers. They were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, Israeli airstrikes targeted the southern town of Nabatieh, specifically hitting a residential area near a gas station.
The strike destroyed a house in the vicinity, adding to the growing damage and casualties from the ongoing military campaign.
The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah confirmed it had launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli military positions.
Hezbollah reported that it fired missiles at the “Haboushit” site and successfully struck an Israeli tank with a guided missile south of the town of al-Qouzah, resulting in the destruction of the tank and casualties among its crew.
Southern Lebanon has become a focal point in the intensifying military confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah, which began in early October 2023.
Hezbollah has been actively supporting the Palestinian group Hamas in its fight against Israel in Gaza. The conflict has expanded to Lebanon, with daily exchanges of fire across the Israel-Lebanon border, resulting in rising casualties and widespread displacement.
Lebanon has suffered significant civilian and military losses, with thousands of people displaced from their homes, particularly in the south.
Israel’s military operations, including ground invasions and airstrikes, have targeted Hezbollah strongholds, exacerbating the humanitarian situation. In response, Hezbollah has launched cross-border missile strikes, leading to further escalation.
