Two individuals were killed and five others injured when an attacker threw a firebomb at a passenger bus in Dakar on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Interior. The bus driver, Abdoulaye Diop, who was injured in the attack, recounted to a field correspondent for the French news agency that a group of masked young men boarded the bus, insulted him, and one of them ignited the firebomb and threw it.

The Interior Minister, Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome, stated that the attackers robbed the passengers of their money and mobile phones. Standing beside the burnt-out bus, he said, “We have notified the gendarmerie and the fire department that seven masked individuals took control of a public transport bus.”

Diome announced in clips circulated on social media the deaths of two people and five others suffering serious injuries. “What a criminal act, it’s inhumane to throw a Molotov cocktail in a bus carrying Senegalese,” he said, promising to find and arrest the perpetrators.
