The World Food Programme launched an emergency operation on Sunday to provide food aid to a million victims affected by the escalation in Lebanon. The program distributed ready-to-eat food rations, bread, hot meals, and food parcels across the country’s shelters. The escalation of the conflict at the end of the week highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian response. After the killing of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah by an Israeli strike, Israel conducted numerous airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon. The World Food Programme quickly reached thousands of new displaced individuals and is preparing to support up to a million people with a combination of cash and food assistance. The international community has been urged to support with $105 million to sustain the humanitarian efforts. Lebanon is at a breaking point, unable to withstand another war.”
The recent conflict in Lebanon has escalated significantly following the assassination of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, by Israel. This event marked a severe escalation in the ongoing conflict, leading to widespread Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon. These airstrikes have resulted in over 700 deaths and displaced approximately 118,000 people. The violence has raised concerns about a potential wider regional conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has expressed a determination to continue operations to secure the northern border with Lebanon, and the international community, including the UN, has voiced concerns, urging a ceasefire to prevent a regional war.
