The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has called for humanitarian aid, including food supplies, shelter, and health materials, to be quickly and extensively transported across all border crossings and humanitarian corridors to communities in Sudan facing catastrophic levels of hunger.

The UN agency highlighted that a WFP aid convoy crossed from Chad into the Darfur region of Sudan through the Adré border crossing on Sunday, carrying 205 tons of food aid sufficient for about 17,000 people. A UN official stated that the food aid will be delivered to communities across Darfur, with distribution operations beginning as soon as the trucks arrive. The official noted that additional food aid trucks are being loaded in Chad for transit to Darfur as soon as possible, and the program has enough food for half a million people ready to be transported to Sudan via the Adré crossing.
