Israeli security forces announced on Saturday that they have successfully neutralized 10 Palestinians during an ongoing operation in the vicinity of Nur Shams, a refugee camp situated in the northern region of the occupied West Bank.
In a statement issued by the army, it was revealed that over the course of more than 40 hours, clashes resulted in their elimination. Additionally, eight soldiers and a police officer sustained injuries during the raid.
Reports from an AFP journalist stationed in the nearby town of Tulkarem indicated the sound of gunfire and explosions emanating from the direction of Nur Shams on Saturday.
Residents, contacted by AFP, disclosed the prevalence of a power outage and dwindling food supplies within the camp. They also conveyed the imposition of restrictions on entry and exit, effectively confining the inhabitants.
The West Bank has been marred by escalating violence since early last year, intensified by the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7. Israeli forces assert that their frequent raids in the region target Palestinian militants; however, civilian casualties remain a grim reality.
According to Palestinian official sources, approximately 480 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli troops or settlers in the West Bank since the commencement of hostilities triggered by the Hamas assault on Israel, which precipitated the Gaza conflict.
