Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, reiterated his call on Thursday for Israel to immediately cease its war on the Gaza Strip and ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians. According to the Jordanian news agency Ammon, Safadi received a phone call from the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, to discuss efforts to halt the war in Gaza.
Safadi emphasized the need to intensify targeted efforts to stop the ongoing war in Gaza and alleviate the suffering it has caused. He called for an end to the Israeli occupation’s war crimes that violate international law and human values.
The Kingdom of Jordan also reiterated its demands for Israel to adhere to the resolution presented by Jordan on behalf of the Arab Group and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and compliance with legal and humanitarian obligations.
In a related context, the President of the Jordanian Doctors’ Association, Ziad Al-Zu’bi, announced on Thursday that 850 Jordanian doctors have volunteered to go to the Gaza Strip to aid war casualties amid the collapse of the healthcare system. This decision comes as Israel’s relentless attacks on Gaza entered their fourth week.
The Israeli military has continued its bombardment of Gaza for the twenty-eighth consecutive day since the escalation began between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israeli forces. Hamas initiated “Operation Al-Aqsa Sword” on October 7, to which Israel responded with “Operation Iron Swords,” vowing a heavy price for Hamas’s attacks.
Israel’s devastating airstrikes on Gaza have sparked widespread protests and condemnation across the Middle East. Several Arab countries have also warned against the forced displacement of Gaza residents, as Israel urged them to evacuate southwards or head to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
The Israeli bombardment has resulted in more than 9,000 fatalities and over 22,000 injuries. In the West Bank, clashes have led to the deaths of over 134 Palestinians and injuries to around 2,100 others. Israeli casualties have reached 1,400 fatalities and over 5,400 injuries.
Most Arab and Islamic countries, along with Russia and China, have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid. However, the United States and Israel oppose this initiative, with Washington exercising its veto power in the UN Security Council to prevent a resolution compelling Israel to halt its continuous bombing of Gaza, home to over two million Palestinians.
