After the Houthis in Yemen announced last Saturday that they had downed an American drone while it was flying in the skies of Marib Governorate, the American response followed.

Three Drones and Two Missile Systems Destroyed

The U.S. Central Command stated on Monday that it had destroyed three drones and two missile systems belonging to the Houthis.

It confirmed that the operation took place during the past 24 hours, according to Reuters.
This came after the Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, announced on Saturday evening that the Yemeni group had downed an American drone flying in the airspace of Marib Governorate.

He added in his statement that day that this drone was the eighth of its kind that the Houthi group had successfully downed.
The drone brought down by the Houthis was an “MQ-9 Reaper” reconnaissance drone, which they accused of carrying out “hostile acts” over Marib Governorate.

British-American Strikes

It should be noted that since November, the Houthis have been targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.
The Houthi attacks have affected shipping movements in the strategic region that accounts for 12% of global trade.

This prompted the United States to form an international maritime coalition and strike Houthi targets in Yemen, with Britain participating in some of these strikes.
With the intervention of Washington and London and escalating tensions in January, the Houthi group declared that it now considers all American and British ships as military targets.
