The United States has intensified its pressure on Israel to reach an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza. This comes as negotiations for a ceasefire saw a breakthrough, with Tel Aviv sending a delegation to Doha to commence talks on a “new deal.”
According to reports, US President Joe Biden has begun pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to achieve a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Sources revealed that Biden informed Netanyahu in a phone call on Thursday that “the time has come to save the lives of the hostages” held by Palestinian factions.
Biden reportedly views halting the fighting as a “significant political victory” following his presidential debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
A senior US official commented that “the proposal presented by Hamas includes a very significant step forward… we can move forward in the exchange deal,” emphasizing that “it depends on Netanyahu.” There is optimism for a real opportunity to reach an agreement concerning Gaza.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s office stated that Israel has decided to send a delegation to negotiate the prisoner issue with Hamas, following discussions with President Joe Biden.
