American media outlets have reported that the United States executed 38 military operations in Iraq and Syria last month, in collaboration with its local allies.
The magazine “Task and Purpose” stated on Wednesday that US forces carried out these operations against militants from the terrorist organization ISIS (banned in Russia and several countries) during May 2023.
The operations included 21 missions in Iraq and 17 in Syria, as reported by the US Central Command. These led to the capture of 31 ISIS members and the death of eight others in both countries.
The US Central Command noted that the death toll and detainees included the killing of two members and the arrest of 20 in Syria. Meanwhile, in Iraq, six members were killed and 11 others were arrested.
“Task and Purpose” highlighted the statement issued by the Joint Forces in Iraq, which confirmed that these operations were executed to track the remnants of ISIS and prevent them from reassembling their ranks or forming any type of terrorist networks.
In 2017, Iraq announced the expulsion of ISIS members and complete control over all Iraqi territories. However, dormant cells affiliated with the organization remain active in parts of the country.
