The US Embassy in Amman celebrated the 247th anniversary of the United States’ independence. The event emphasized the bilateral relations between the United States and Jordan and highlighted the deep cultural ties between the two countries. In celebration of American movies filmed in Jordan, the event focused on showcasing Hollywood and its impact on American culture.
Henry Wester, the US Ambassador to Jordan, stated, “Movies not only sell tickets but also captivate our imagination and bring people closer together. From the way movies make us feel to the stories they tell, films have become more than just entertainment. They are the cornerstone and foundation of American culture and culture worldwide.”
The US Embassy in Amman closely collaborates with Jordanian institutions to promote cultural exchange through films. The embassy has also funded major training workshops with experts from Hollywood and other locations to train aspiring Jordanian writers, filmmakers, and cinematographers to enhance comprehensive economic growth.
During the celebration, the ambassador reiterated the commitment of the United States to support political and economic reforms in Jordan, stating that “economic growth comes with risks and may require sacrifices, but what is less appreciated is how growth can benefit from imagination.” He highlighted the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries last year, with a duration of seven years and a value exceeding 10 billion US dollars, which already supports these initiatives and deepens the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Independence Day, commemorating the birthday of the United States, is celebrated on July 4th each year in honor of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
The ambassador concluded his speech by saying, “This year marks the 247th anniversary of independence, and we are honored to celebrate this day with our friends and partners in the beautiful Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”
