In a statement released, the ‘Response Coordinators’ team highlighted a drastic reduction in the entry of United Nations trucks into Northern Syria. As per the report, only 18 UN trucks have been permitted entry via the Bab al-Salam border crossing, complying with the granted exception, set to expire in 18 days.
The statement further noted that humanitarian organizations operating in Northern Syria have started to consume their strategic stocks within Syria. This consumption is occurring amid a significant drain on humanitarian organizations, coupled with the absence of solutions from the international community.
There is a perceptible trend among international communities to accept the proposals of the Syrian regime by providing UN aid through Damascus. Moreover, the continued stalling between parties to achieve political gains will only exacerbate the suffering of civilians.
The statement cautioned against the sustained halt of humanitarian aid entering through the border. The consequences of this blockage will start to manifest in the next two weeks. With food prices escalating to unbearable levels and socio-economic crises intensifying, the civilian population in the region faces even more hardships.
In this dire situation, the team urged the international community to act swiftly to alleviate the growing crisis in Northern Syria.
