The United Nations Refugee Agency has reported a significant increase in the number of people forced to flee their homes, surpassing 110 million people.
In a social media post on its official account on “X,” the UN organization stated today, Sunday, that by the end of 2022, the number of those displaced from their homes had reached 108.4 million people.
The UN agency had previously emphasized that conflicts around the world, including the Russia-Ukraine war, have displaced millions of people.
Additionally, climate change has forced people to leave their homes and seek refuge in other areas.
In its 2022 report, the agency highlighted that the number of internally displaced persons and refugees increased by 19.1 million compared to the previous year, marking an unprecedented annual rise.
The report also noted that the upward trend in forced displacement rates has shown no signs of slowing down in 2023 due to conflicts erupting in multiple regions, further exacerbating the global displacement crisis.
