The British Minister for Development, Anneliese Dodds, called for establishing peace and security in the Middle East and announced that she would disclose new aid for Gaza during her visit to Jordan, marking her first trip to the region since assuming office.
Before starting her visit to Jordan, Dodds stated that she would announce a £6 million funding initiative for UNICEF to support vulnerable families in Gaza, according to a statement released by the British government this Wednesday.
The £6 million aid package will help tens of thousands of Gaza residents access food and water, as well as health and education services, as they continue to face a devastating humanitarian crisis.
The Minister will also visit a warehouse of the World Food Programme, which plays a key role in delivering aid to Gaza.
Dodds stated, “Now is the time for calm. If we want to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, it is in no one’s interest for tensions to escalate and spread across the broader region.”
She added, “We are witnessing the humanitarian impact of the conflict on the people of Gaza… This new British support will provide a lifeline to vulnerable families, giving them access to essential food and water during a difficult time,” expressing her gratitude to the Jordanian government for supporting the United Kingdom’s efforts to deliver aid to those most in need.
