On Thursday, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held discussions with Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
According to the UAE News Agency “WAM,” Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed had a phone call with Lazzarini and discussed cooperation between the UAE and UNRWA, as well as ways to support the agency on various levels.
The UAE Foreign Minister informed the UNRWA Commissioner-General that the UAE has decided to open a joint account and contribute $15 million to support the agency’s operations, services, and the rehabilitation of the losses in the city of Jenin and its camp, which have been affected by Israeli attacks, leaving an impact on thousands of individuals.
Abdullah bin Zayed emphasized the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting UNRWA and assisting it in overcoming the challenges it faces in improving the conditions of Palestinian refugees. He commended the services provided by the agency to Palestinian refugees.
In response, Lazzarini expressed his appreciation for the continuous support provided by the UAE to UNRWA, including the recent allocation of $20 million to support the agency at the beginning of this year.
Israel launched its military operation in Jenin with the aim of destroying the infrastructure and weapons belonging to armed groups in the camp. The attack began in the early hours of last Monday, with the use of a drone, and involved over a thousand Israeli soldiers.
The operation witnessed the unprecedented entry of special forces from the Israeli army into the camp, according to Israeli media outlets.
