President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed President of Malta George Vella, on an official visit to the UAE. The meeting took place at the Beach Palace in Abu Dhabi, where the two leaders discussed further strengthening the relationship between their countries.

Bin Zayed expressed hope that this visit would be the beginning of even greater development and growth in the bilateral relations between the UAE and Malta in the forthcoming period.

The talks between the UAE President and his Maltese counterpart focused on possibilities of enhancing mutual cooperation. They explored the opportunities the two countries possess to develop their relationships, especially in the fields of economy, investment, trade, renewable energy, food security, environment, and innovation – vital areas that constitute a significant driver for sustainable development in both nations.

In addition, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues and developments.

They exchanged views on these matters, reaffirming their commitment, through their membership in the United Nations Security Council, to work together in supporting peace, stability, and cooperation worldwide. Furthermore, they agreed on enhancing international collective efforts to address common global challenges.

The meeting also touched on the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) that the UAE will host later this year. This was in line with the coordinated efforts between the two countries in the UN Security Council on enhancing the international response to the risk of climate change.
