Three people were killed and others injured and abducted, yet to be counted, in a machete attack launched by elements of the “Democratic Allied Forces,” affiliated with the “ISIS” organization, on a village in the “Irumu” territory in the “Ituri” province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to local media today, the head of the “Irumu” territory stated that a group of armed men launched an attack at ten o’clock on Sunday night (local time) on the village of “Kiyabangazi” in the province.
He pointed out that the attackers stormed a house in the village and slaughtered a woman, her husband, and their daughter with machetes, while another woman was injured and transported for treatment.
The rebels also abducted a ten-year-old girl and took her to an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, the joint force between the armed forces of Congo and the Ugandan army inspected the scene of the incident and began pursuing the attackers and securing the local population.
On the other hand, 15 people died in the “Fizi” territory, part of the “South Kivu” province in the east of the country, due to heavy rains that fell on the region last Saturday and Sunday, flooding fields and washing away homes.
It is worth noting that the “Baliga” area in the “South Kivu” province of the Democratic Republic of Congo witnessed flooding of the “Olyndie” river in January, resulting in the displacement of at least 500 families.
The flooding of the “Olyndie” river coincided with the flooding of the “Congo” river and its tributaries, which resulted in the death of more than 300 people due to the river reaching a record level not seen in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1961.
The “Kalehe” area in the “South Kivu” province was hit by floods and landslides in May of last year, resulting in the death and disappearance of more than 400 people, with the authorities declaring a general mourning for the victims of these floods and landslides.
