On the sidelines of the Paris Le Bourget Aerospace and Aviation Industry Exhibition, Algeria purchased eight Boeing 737 Max-9 aircraft to enhance its medium-haul fleet. The deal, valued at one billion dollars based on official prices, was signed by Algeria’s national airline company.
During the aerospace exhibition in Le Bourget, the Algerian airline company inked a deal for eight Boeing “737 Max-9” aircraft to modernize its medium-haul fleet with new-generation models, according to a report by a journalist from the French News Agency on Tuesday.
The deal’s value, struck at the aviation and space industry exhibition, is estimated at one billion dollars based on the official prices. The contract stipulates the aircraft’s delivery by 2027, confirmed by Yasin Ben Suleiman, the General Manager of the Algerian airline company, to the press.
He said, “The Algerian airline and Boeing have been working together since the 1970s, and this is a continuation of that partnership today”. It’s worth noting that the Algerian company currently operates around 30 Boeing 737s of earlier models.
The Algerian airline company also signed a memorandum of understanding to convert two Boeing 737 passenger planes into cargo aircraft. However, this order from the Algerian airline won’t be added to the American company’s order table, as it falls under the “customer unknown” category.
Earlier in June, the Algerian company signed a contract to purchase seven large Airbus 350 aircraft, theoretically worth 2.2 billion dollars.
In response to a question about potential orders for long-haul aircraft from Boeing (models 787 or 777), Ben Suleiman said, “All possibilities are being considered as part of the company’s development strategy”.
