Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Hafnaoui emerged victorious in the men’s 800m freestyle event at the swimming world championships held on Wednesday.
Hafnaoui completed the race in an impressive time of 7 minutes and 37.00 seconds, outpacing Australia’s Sam Short, who secured second place with a time of 7 minutes and 37.76 seconds, and American Bobby Finke, who came in third with a time of 7 minutes and 38.67 seconds.
Throughout the race, Hafnaoui, Short, and Germany’s Lukas Martens fiercely competed, with their positions constantly changing. However, Hafnaoui’s determined efforts allowed him to surge ahead and secure the gold medal as he crossed the finish line.
Hafnaoui’s triumph in the 800m freestyle comes after winning a silver medal in the 400m freestyle on the opening night of the competition. The Tunisian athlete expressed his motivation to improve upon his previous performance and seize the gold in the longer race.
Notably, Ahmed Hafnaoui is also the reigning Olympic champion in the 400m freestyle category. His exceptional talent and achievements continue to elevate Tunisia’s profile in the world of swimming.
