In a powerful display of solidarity, tens of thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of central London this Saturday to express their support for Palestinians embroiled in the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel.
The vibrant crowd, chanting pro-Palestine slogans and brandishing placards urging an end to Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza in retaliation for Hamas’s recent terror attack, created a fervent atmosphere in the heart of the city.
One controversial chant, “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” resonated through the gathering. While some Jewish community leaders criticized it as anti-Semitic, defenders argued that it is a longstanding protest chant advocating for a Palestinian homeland.
Amidst global condemnation aimed at Israel, international legal scholars raised concerns over potential acts of genocide and collective punishment in response to Hamas’s attack. Speaking from Cairo on Saturday, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres called for a continuous and substantial delivery of aid to Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for a humanitarian ceasefire to alleviate what he termed “a godawful nightmare” in the region.
