Syrian military units stationed in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib successfully intercepted and neutralized a series of drones launched by “terrorist organizations,” as reported by the Syrian Defense Ministry on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the ministry revealed that army forces had shot down a total of seven drones that were targeting neighboring safe areas in Aleppo and Idlib.
This incident comes in the wake of a similar operation conducted on December 24, 2023, where army units in the Aleppo and Hama countryside effectively repelled an attack by “terrorist organizations” utilizing drones.
Notably, rebel forces in northern Syria, particularly in the northwestern province of Idlib, have escalated their drone attacks against areas controlled by the government.
One of the deadliest attacks occurred in early October 2023, when a drone strike claimed the lives of over 80 military personnel and civilians during a graduation event at a military academy in the Homs province. The increased frequency and severity of drone attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the Syrian military in different regions of the country.
