Ukraine’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, revealed that the environmental damage caused by the Russian invasion in his country has reached a staggering $57 billion.

Strilets made this statement during a meeting of the international working group concerned with the environmental impact of war, as reported by the Ukrainian news agency “Ukrinform” on Sunday.

Over the past two and a half months, Strilets noted that the extent of damage to the environment has increased by nearly $1 billion, bringing the total to $57 billion.

These figures are far from final, and ongoing efforts are underway to develop and implement a comprehensive environmental recovery plan for Ukraine to address the consequences of the war.

According to “Ukrinform,” nearly 2,500 cases of environmental damage have already been documented in Ukraine.

This revelation highlights the severe ecological toll that the conflict has taken on Ukraine, emphasizing the urgent need for restoration and recovery efforts to mitigate the environmental impact of the war.
