Yuri Popov, the Deputy Head of Russia’s Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, announced that militants from the Al-Nusra Front, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group, are preparing to attack Russian and Syrian military sites using drones.
During a press conference, Popov revealed that according to intelligence received by the Russian reconciliation center, Al-Nusra terrorists in the towns of Kansafra and Al-Bara are gearing up to launch drone strikes against the military positions of Russian and Syrian forces, as reported by Russia’s Sputnik news agency.
He further noted that the Russian group command and the Syrian Armed Forces leadership have taken preemptive measures to thwart these armed provocations.
Additionally, Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russian Foreign Intelligence, previously accused the United States of assisting militants in carrying out terrorist attacks in Syria, targeting crowded public places and government institutions.
The Russian air forces destroyed two militant bases located in the rugged mountainous areas of Homs province.
The statement, which was relayed by the Russian news agency TASS, highlighted a significant operational achievement aimed at combating extremist groups in the region.
According to Major General Popov, the destroyed bases were utilized by militants who had previously operated out of the al-Tanf area and were using the challenging terrain of the Al-Amour mountain range for protection.
“The Russian air forces have destroyed two bases in areas that are difficult to access, where militants sought refuge,” Popov explained.
