Russia Open to Returning to Ukraine Grain Deal ‘if Demands Met’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow would consider rejoining the Ukraine grain deal if its demands were completely met.

He expressed that the agreement had lost its significance, and this was the first time he commented on the matter since Russia’s exit from the landmark deal earlier this week.

The deal had allowed safe passage for cargo ships from Black Sea ports.
During a government meeting, Putin emphasised that the continuation of the grain deal in its current form no longer held any meaning.

However, he also stated that Russia would be open to the possibility of returning to the deal if all the principles, under which Russia initially agreed to participate, were fully addressed and fulfilled.

One of the main conditions mentioned by Putin was the withdrawal of sanctions on supplies of Russian grain and fertilizers to world markets.

Moscow had raised concerns about a related agreement that allowed the export of Russian food and fertilizers, which had not been adequately honored.

While Russia had extended the deal multiple times, Putin accused Western countries of using the deal for political blackmail.

He asserted that Russia had shown remarkable patience and tolerance in the matter.
