Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the critical importance of the “normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria” for achieving a comprehensive solution in Syria and enhancing regional security.

Zakharova expressed Moscow’s support for the ongoing normalization process between Turkey and Syria. In a press conference, she stated, “We encourage our partners to continue their communications through all possible means, and Turkey has recently taken significant steps regarding the normalization path.”

She added, “There are signals from Turkey, including from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, about their readiness to normalize relations with Syria. We welcome this direction and trust that practical steps will be taken by both sides.”

Zakharova highlighted that the “Astana format remains the only effective international mechanism for developing a peaceful solution in Syria,” affirming, “We are determined to continue our close cooperation with our Turkish partners under the Astana format.”
