Russia has decisively condemned Israel’s October 8 airstrike on Damascus, which targeted a densely populated area, according to Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“We decisively condemn this action. Regardless of the target, the attack was carried out in a third country, in a densely developed area, inevitably causing civilian casualties. It is outrageous that such actions have become routine against Syria, Iran, and the Gaza Strip,” Zakharova stated.
The spokeswoman reiterated Russia’s call for Israel to respect the sovereignty of other nations and to comply with international law. She labeled the strike as a “reckless and dangerous act of aggression,” warning that it signals an intent to escalate armed conflict in the region further.
The Syrian Defense Ministry reported seven people dead and eleven injured in the strike, which targeted a residential building located less than one kilometer from the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Al Hadath suggested that the airstrike aimed at a Hezbollah supporter, though the embassy confirmed that no Iranian nationals were harmed.
