A pro-Palestine rally unfolded at Sydney’s Port Botany on Saturday as demonstrators sought to obstruct the operations of an Israeli transporter ship.
Organized by the Australian Palestine Justice Movement, the rally drew hundreds of participants aiming to prevent the Israeli ZIM shipping line from docking.
In a statement on social media, the group declared, “Our demonstration against ZIM is starting! Hundreds of supporters from the community and unions standing against genocide and its enablers on the port and in politics.”
Activists also took to the waters on jet skis, calling for action against what they perceive as a significant supporter of Israel and the Israeli Defence Forces.
The protest is part of a global wave of demonstrations responding to the conflict in Gaza, with Israel being accused of causing the deaths of over 11,000 Palestinians, including a substantial number of innocent civilians and children, within just over a month of its military campaign against the Gaza strip.
In solidarity with the Palestinians, hundreds of thousands of pro-Palestine protesters worldwide have taken to the streets, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The situation continues to draw attention and activism from communities globally, highlighting the urgency and complexity of the ongoing conflict.
