The Palestinian National Council (PNC) has condemned the systematic targeting of journalists and media personnel by Israeli forces.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the PNC shed light on the grave crimes and intimidation against journalists, often referred to as the “Knights of Truth,” perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces in Palestine. These actions include cold-blooded killings, deliberate live-fire shootings, and arrests.
This statement comes as the world observes the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist. This year’s occasion is marked amid escalating and continued violations against journalists and media workers on occupied Palestinian territories.
The PNC’s declaration also recalled the specific incident where Palestinian journalist Sherin Abu Akleh was tragically killed on live broadcast. The PNC took the opportunity to salute Palestinian journalists for their sacrifices, enduring responsibility, and for continuing their journalistic duties despite facing significant threats to their lives.
The Council reiterated its unwavering support and emphasized the national and moral role of these journalists in exposing and debunking the falsehoods of the Israeli government, which the PNC termed as “racist and fascist.”
Furthermore, the Palestinian National Council expressed its gratitude to all national media institutions, both public and private, and their staff both inside and outside Palestine. They appreciated their sacrifices and bravery in fulfilling their mission at the heart of the Palestinian people’s battle, resilience, and resistance against the occupation.
The Palestinian National Council is the legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organization and represents the Palestinian people. Over the years, there have been numerous reports and instances where Palestinian journalists have faced threats, arrests, and violence while covering events in the occupied territories.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist aims to raise awareness about these challenges and honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in their line of duty.
