A senior member of Hamas’s general security forces in southern Gaza’s Rafah was killed in an airstrike yesterday, the Israeli military claimed.
Salame Muhammad Abu Ajaj, one of the commanders of the general security forces in Rafah, was killed in a fighter jet strike, according to Israel. The general security forces, a Hamas body, supports the military wing of the terror group and is tasked with several roles to “ensure the survival of the group, continue routine Hamas military activity” the IDF stated.
In the same strike, Eyad al-Maghari, the mayor of Nuseirat, was also killed.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023, has escalated into a full-scale war, causing widespread devastation and significant loss of life.
The war has resulted in heavy casualties and extensive damage in Gaza. According to health authorities in the Gaza Strip, more than 36,500 people have been killed since the conflict began. The humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened, with many civilians facing severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies due to the ongoing hostilities and Israeli blockades.
