Morocco has advocated for robust cooperation between the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, the Sub-Committee on Human Rights, Democracy, and Governance, and the African Governance Platform to confront the multifaceted challenges facing the continent.
The Moroccan delegation underscored, in a meeting with the Peace and Security Council and the Sub-Committee on Human Rights, Democracy, and Governance, conducted via video conference on Friday, the importance of establishing close collaboration among these entities.
This collaboration should be grounded in comprehensive, integrated, and multidimensional approaches that center around the triad of peace, security, and development. The aim is to strengthen peace, security, and sustainable development for the benefit of African citizens, as emphasized in the Tangier Declaration issued in October 2022.
During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation highlighted that the current challenges are intricate and multifaceted. They stressed the significance of deep reflection and the exchange of innovative ideas to enhance these efforts.
The delegation affirmed that the aforementioned commitment must be based on the synergy and integration of efforts to leverage the advantages that each entity can offer to achieve better outcomes.
In this context, the Moroccan delegation emphasized that the Kingdom has amassed extensive experience in solidifying democratic practices and fostering a human rights culture. They pointed out that the new Constitution of 2011, which serves as a “true covenant” for human rights, makes the enhancement of these rights a constitutional commitment that is irreversible.
Furthermore, the delegation reaffirmed Morocco’s readiness to share its experience in the field of democratic governance with other African countries.
They recalled that last May, Morocco hosted the second training workshop for election observers in Africa. This workshop witnessed an increase in the number of participants from 32 to 61 individuals representing various regions of the continent. The objective is to bolster African capacities to support good political governance in Africa through credible and transparent electoral processes.
