Argentine media outlets reported on Thursday that star player Lionel Messi has yet to decide on his participation in the upcoming Summer Olympics.
French newspaper Le Foot Mercato quoted its Argentine counterpart TYC, stating that the Inter Miami player is a candidate to return to Paris, but not to his former team Paris Saint-Germain.
It was clarified that “the possibility of Lionel Messi at the Paris 2024 Olympics is strongly considered by the coaching staff of the Argentine Olympic team.”
Furthermore, “Coach Javier Mascherano has discussed this matter with the 8-time world’s best player, and Messi may make his decision after participating in the Copa America.”
“The season is still early for Inter Miami, and the 36-year-old player is not in a hurry to determine his stance on participating in the Olympics,” it added.
On the other hand, it was confirmed that Argentina has decided to include Julian Alvarez and Nicolas Otamendi among the three overage players. If Messi doesn’t join, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will be included, provided Aston Villa agrees
