The outgoing Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, issued directives to all relevant ministries and agencies to raise the level of preparedness and provide necessary support to Al Kufra and southeastern Libya in response to the severe floods and heavy rainfall affecting the southeastern regions.
In a statement from the Government of National Unity, Dbeibah said, “I have instructed all relevant ministries and agencies to elevate their readiness level and deploy the necessary resources and equipment to Al Kufra municipality to assist citizens there in the wake of the torrential rains that have caused floods and damaged public and private properties.”
Dbeibah expressed his wishes for the safety of the residents in Al Kufra, affirming that the government stands with them every step of the way until this crisis is over.
The Libyan National Meteorological Center announced on Sunday evening that Al Kufra witnessed record rainfall amounts not seen since 1952, with 46 millimeters recorded in just one hour.
